Southend fans have been in great voice throughout the whole season, and goalkeeper Daniel Bentley, decided to join in with 1 of the Southend songs during the club's planned "lap of honour" at the end of the season.

As the Southend players started their "lap of honour", Southend fans in Block W started to sing "Shoes off if you love Southend" as they walked past. Dan Bentley responded to these chants by stopping in front of the fans, removing his football boots, and holding them high above his head.

Dan Bentley grew up watching the blues, and came through the youth ranks following from a fantastic spell in Southend United's youth team. He was reserve to Paul Smith in the 2012-13 season, before Phil Brown gave him an opportunity to shine in the first team following his appointment in March 2013. During the 2013-14 season, Dan Bentley was a regular starter in Phil Brown's side, keeping an impressive 20 clean sheets during the season.

"It's an honour to play for the team I grew up watching, so to hear the fans of your boyhood club sing your name every single game is very special for me" said Bentley. When asked about the fans support this season, he said "The fans have been great all season long, Their support for the team has been absolutely unbelievable at times, and it really does lift the team and helps us to push on through the game."
